Burkina Faso’s Salif Diallo and former right hand man to the ousted head of state, Blaise Compaore, was on Wednesday elected president of the new National Assembly of Burkina Faso.
Diallo becomes the second personality of the State.
Diallo, age 58, is an executive of the Movement of the People for Progress ( MPP), the party of the new president, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré. He got 78 votes out of the 127 that makes up the assembly.

The MPP obtained 55 seats in the country’s general election of November 29.
A half-dozen of small parties formed a group of 14 members of parliament and announced their reunification in the MPP.
The new parliament replaces the National Council of Transition, the temporary assembly organized after the fall of the former leader Compaoré.
Considered as the most faithful lieutenant of Compaoré since the 1990s, Diallo was the cabinet director to Compaoré, then Secretary under the revolution period (1983-1987).
He served in diverse positions under Compaoré‘s administration as president before falling into disgrace.
